I had the privilege of knowing you at an early age. I remember driving from San José to Cabo San Lucas and having the best views of the Sea of Cortez.

I remember my parents and their friends, leaving their jeeps at Palmilla beach, windows down, unlocked. Not a care in the world. You did that, you caused that effect on so many foreigners who moved here and started calling you home.

I remember how you showed me and my brother that the sea will always be the best view that anybody can have. Especially if you´re an early bird! You´ve given us so many sunrises, the kind of sunrises that will make you inhale deeper and exhale slower.

You gave my family opportunities and direction, you gave us yourself, and we shall always be in debt.

As time goes by, I can’t help but notice that you are becoming more and more popular, it was inevitable. Only a fool could´ve thought otherwise. I am very happy for you, but also, a bit scared. I hope that you are very well taken care of by all of us.

You are my favorite road trip, from Los Cabos to Sonoma California. What a trip! Not only the scenery; your unique people offer the most amazing food along the way!

Whether you are having some machaca burritos as you commence your trip or stopping for some delicious clams at La Paz! How about some fresh scallops at Loreto, sipping on a Margarita while dipping your feet in the water?

Lobsters at Puerto Nuevo! Wow, that place will always occupy a special place both in my heart and my tummy.

More and more friends, family, and acquaintances are starting to develop an interest in driving you from north to south. Can’t blame them. The ones that have done it have always taken the time to call me and tell me what an amazing experience they’ve crossed on their bucket list. You are a guarantee, truly. And whoever argues with that, I invite them to catch a sunset with me in Todos Santos.

Thank you and cheers on having some of the best beaches to surf worldwide. You give every surfer plenty of options; from zippers at San José del Cabo all the way to Ensenada and in between. Can’t ask for more, no one should.

Golf, motorsports, world-class fishing tournaments, kitesurfing, you name it. It´s all here. On this paraíso terrenal.

I’ve seen you grow over the past 20 years; I believe at some points you were not prepared for such changes. Nevertheless, you have been adapting little by little, slowly but surely. Or at least that’s what I would like to believe. Hopefully, I’ll be fortunate enough to see what you become in another 20 years; just the thought of it is exciting. No doubt; you’ll be one of the most renowned destinations in this hemisphere, as well as you should.

Keep it authentic Baja, as you always have.

With love, Rodrigo.
