Imagine this headline on the front page of a major newspaper. In jest, of course, but still one of the best ways to describe the interesting and unique architecture of Morada Escondida, nestled on the hillside in Todos Santos, Mexico.
Just last year, Morada Escondida was recognized by ArchDaily Mexico announcing the Best Architecture Projects of 2021 as well as featured in their selection of The 50 best Homes of 2021
Additionally, a live broadcast collaboration with The Agency Todos Santos, Robb Report, and this writer; was very successful. The Agency included it as one of THE AGENCY’S TOP SOCIAL MEDIA MOMENTS OF 2021

This jewel of Baja California Sur was built in 2018 and is now touted as one of the most iconic properties in our Pueblo Magico and arguably in all of South Baja.
SPACES
The Roof Garden
Invisible from the main house ground level, this clever roof garden is the first thing you see upon arriving at the property. A poured concrete labyrinth formed around indigenous desert plants. The natural stone walkway leads to a carefully placed bench situated perfectly to enjoy magnificent sunsets 365 days a year. Not to be missed.
The Floating Stairs
Descending into the heart of the house, at this very moment, is where you ask yourself, what kind of place is this? Who lives here?
A monolith landed in the center of the entry garden, a bathing pool that appears to slide gracefully into the sea, and a concrete outline of walls drawing together the expansive cardon cactus forest with the endless Pacific Ocean. Where am I?
The Studio
This is where I visualize my Dream Suite. Providing an open invitation for creative interior decorators, the concrete panels of walls, and sloped ceilings bathed throughout the day with the ideal amount of natural light yet soundproof and protective at night.
My design requests would include a walk-in closet adjacent to the outdoor shower, a platform-mounted king-size bed overflowing with comfortable bedding and soft pillows, well-placed stage lighting, and plants cascading from the ceiling. For many productive years, this space provided inspiration for renowned ceramic artist Christa Assad. Not hard to see why.
The Dining Room, Kitchen Nook and Conversation Pit
An open concept area ideal for sharing a fine bottle of wine and a delicious meal with friends, bathed in the warmth of the fireplace. Dining inside an art gallery with nature as the backdrop.
This split-level space is perfect for wandering with your thoughts or hosting a lively party with a DJ and room to dance (at the end of the day the neighbors won’t know).
MASTER BEDROOM
Waking up and going to bed in this room must be a delight.
What I like the most: The carefully placed slot window that paints the room orange at sunset. It’s worth the wait every evening.
The Zen Garden
Undisturbed yoga, silent meditation, nurture your most beloved plants. Star gazing up through the open roof. Space to disconnect or to reconnect. Your choice. Heaven on Earth.
The Casita
The hospitality culture touts a “Less Is More” ideology and this little house fits the bill: a functional kitchen, tucked-away closet, well-placed bed with rammed earth headboard, an ample workspace, sitting area, bubbling hot tub, and, of course, an outdoor shower. Enjoy un-blockable forever views. And watch for wildlife.
Being inside the casita is one of those few places that evoke a feeling of being at home, protected, sheltered, and hidden. For me, the best spot on the entire property.
Designed by the renowned firm Arquitectos Taller de Terreno with Kevin Wickham at the helm, this talented team is presently at work creating and building three additional projects, all located on the nearby desert bluffs across the arroyo from Morada Escondida.
Without a doubt, they are creating a most unique place on the outskirts of magical Todos Santos.
Want to live the secret agent lifestyle? Then MORADA ESCONDIDA is for you.
